Grissom Varsity Tigers Cling To Victory As Gulf Shores Nearly Erase 4-Run Deficit

Grissom got out to a 4-run lead in the first inning and held on for a 9-8 victory over Gulf Shores on Tuesday. Gulf Shores closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, a single, a walk, a single, a, a single, and a double.
The Tigers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Dalton Dardin drew a walk, scoring one run, Garrett Blacklock singled, scoring two runs, and Zach Shipp grounded out, scoring one run.
Grissom made the score 7-5 in the top of the fourth after an error scored one run, and Dardin singled, scoring two runs.
Nix singled down the left field line on an 0-2 count, which helped Gulf Shores tie the game at seven in the bottom of the fifth.
A home run to left field by Shipp gave Grissom the lead, 9-7, in the top of the sixth.
Blacklock earned the win for the Tigers. The hurler gave up seven hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Bryant Banks took the loss for Gulf Shores. The hurler went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run on three hits, striking out none and walking none. Dardin started on the bump for Grissom. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Woods McElroy began the game for Gulf Shores. The starter surrendered six hits and seven runs (four earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four.
Grissom accumulated 10 hits in the game. Josh Burrell, Griffin Grigsby, Blacklock, and Dardin each collected two hits for Grissom Varsity Tigers. Shipp and Dardin each drove in three runs for Grissom Varsity Tigers. Burrell stole two bases. The Tigers stole four bases in the game.
