Grissom Baseball Weekly Recap – Week of 2/9-2/15

The Grissom Tigers began their season with 2 wins over #10 6A Helena and #5 6A Oxford.

Game 1 – Grissom 9, Helena 7

In game one of the double-header, Grissom jumped out to a 3 run lead in the first inning thanks to a single by Sophomore Christian Sutphin that scored two runs. The Tigers would add one run in the bottom of the 3^rd off of a Helena error to make it 4-0. Helena would answer back in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4. The Tigers eventually responded by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 6^th thanks to a Dillon Cook bases clearing double.

Starting pitcher Dillon Cook started off his year strong by striking out 8 in 3 plus innings of work. John Allen Stogner came in relief pitching 3 2/3 innings and striking out 6. Senior Hunter Sullivan came in to record the final out of the game, striking out the only hitter he faced.

Game 2 – Grissom 13, Oxford 3

In game two the Tigers got down 2-0 early. The Tigers would answer back with one run in the bottom of the first thanks to a lead-off double by Senior Caden Hearn. Caden would eventually come around and score. The score would remain 2-1 until the bottom of the 4^th where the Tigers scored 6 runs with big hits by Caden Hearn, Christian Sutphin, and Brandon Summers. Grissom would add one run in the 5^th and 5 more in the 6^th to defeat Oxford in 6 innings.

Starting pitcher Will Varmette went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 9. Jakob Foss came in relief pitching 2 innings striking out 5. Offensively, the Tigers were led by Caden Hearn who went 4-4 at the plate with 2 RBI.
