Although it has been their strong suit all season, Tigers’ pitchers struggled to get in any kind of groove in the 7A road contest against the Hoover Bucs. Grissom pitchers combined to give up 12 Earned Runs off of 11 hits, 7 Walks, and 3 HBPs, striking out only 3.
Despite the pitching woes, Grissom hitters did put together 7 hits as a team. Martin Methodist signee Cannon Raby and Sophomore Chris Lynam had two hits a piece while Sophomore Tyler Sanderson recorded 3 hits himself.

Varsity – Grissom 2, Spain Park 1
Grissom was able to pick up a much-needed victory in a back-and-forth contest in Game 2 against Spain Park. After each team brought across 1 run in the 1st inning, both teams were held scoreless until the 5th inning when we saw 8th Grader Charlie Cassingham record his 1st Varsity hit with a leadoff double down the left field line. Senior Cannon Raby followed that double with a perfectly placed bunt single to 3rd base. Two batters later Sophomore Chris Lynam laid down a safety-squeeze bunt bringing in the eventual game-winning run.
Wallace State signee Will Varmette was back in his early season form as he picked up the Win (4-2, 3.92 ERA) working 5.2 innings, allowing only 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 7. Junior Rynzo Crutcher added on to his team lead in Saves (3) working the final 1.1 innings in perfect fashion, with 3 Ks.
Saturday – 4/3 vs. Madison County
Varsity – Grissom 10, Madison County 0
Saturday’s matchup with the Madison County Tigers began with the recognition of the 15 Seniors on the Grissom roster. Grissom found itself with a 10-0 lead after the first 3 innings of work and that proved to be all that was needed for the victory. Tigers’ hitters were led by Senior Bryson Santiago and Senior Jack Bianca who both recorded 2 hits on the afternoon. Senior Outfielder Brandon Summers led the team with 3 RBIs.
Senior Landon Wissman picked up the Win (2-1, 3.00 ERA) in his first start since his Sophomore season. Wissman worked 4.1 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits, with 2 Ks. On a night in which the Seniors were honored prior to the game, it was those same Seniors that helped take over the game and pick up the victory in 5 innings over Madison County.

After back-and-forth scoring early in the game, the Patriots JV took a 7-1 lead into the bottom half of the 4th inning of Game 1. Grissom responded with 4 runs of their own, cutting the Bob Jones lead to 7-5, before the Patriots added 5 more runs in the 5th to complete the 12-5 victory.
