Meet the New Head Coach
Cory Hamrick enters his first season as the Head Varsity Coach for the Grissom Tigers baseball program. He is stepping in to lead the program after spending 4 years as a Head Varsity coach and 2 years as a college assistant.
Last year, in his first season as the Head Varsity coach at Randolph, Coach Hamrick led his team to their first AHSAA 4A Baseball playoff appearance and the first appearance in the state playoffs in over 14 years. Hamrick’s team finished with an impressive .314 batting average and amassed 117 stolen bases in only 27 games. Also, his pitching staff finished the season with an impressive 2.71 ERA.
From 2010-2012, Hamrick led the Varsity Baseball program at Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida. In two seasons, Hamrick guided the Eagles to an overall 30-14 record as well as a 2011 regular season district championship where his boys swept the district with a perfect 6-0 record. His 2011 squad finished the season with 4 players who hit over .400 and the team finished the season with a .341 batting average as well as a .501 slugging percentage. That year, in 25 games, the Eagles pushed 198 runs across the plate as a team averaging nearly 8 runs per contest.
Previous to coaching at Niceville, Coach Hamrick served on staff as an assistant for Matt Bragga at Tennessee Tech University where he worked with the outfielders and hitters. Also, Hamrick worked as an assistant under the direction of David Langston at Northwest Shoals CC where his daily responsibilities were working with the catchers and leading the hitters. He began his career in coaching as the Head Coach at Wilkinson County High School in Irwinton, GA. He guided the Warriors to 13 wins in 2004 as well as a class 2A playoff berth. The program had won 7 games total in the previous 6 seasons.
Coach Hamrick finished his playing career and received his degree in 2002 at Birmingham Southern College he played for the legendary Head Coach Brian Shoop. He was a member and every day starter in the outfield for BSC’s 2001 NAIA National Championship Team which finished with a nation’s best 55-11 record. Hamrick caught the final out of the 2001 National Championship game versus Lewis Clark State. He played his first two years of collegiate baseball (1998-2000) under Ben Short at Jefferson State Community College where he was named All-American and Co-Regional Player of the Year in 2000 hitting over .400, 8HR and 42 Stolen Bases.
Coach Hamrick enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf, and spending time with his family in his free time. He is married to Marlena Tidmore Hamrick from Columbiana, AL, and they have two children: daughter Alyster Claire (7) and son John Greylan (10 months).
